What this version contains
Finecolour maintains a versioned snapshot of the classified English records in this site catalog. Version fc-catalog-2026-09-02-42505ff0 contains 889 records:
- Brush: 480
- Sketch: 217
- Junior: 165
- Fineliner: 27
These are counts of records in this independent catalog. They are not claims about the total number of colours manufactured or currently sold in each Finecolour product line.
The full snapshot SHA-256 is 42505ff01017251df4bf3560c950c66a41852f62370261042233ab68f2925b60.
Catalog records are not model capacity
The public Finecolour FAQ describes EF102 as 480 colours, EF100 as 240, and EF101 as 160. Those figures describe named manufacturer models. This site’s legacy Brush, Sketch, Junior, and Fineliner taxonomies do not have enough record-level source evidence to treat those model totals as interchangeable with this catalog’s counts.
For that reason, the FAQ is retained as comparison evidence, not used to overwrite records or fill missing colours by inference. Read the Finecolour public FAQ.
What is recorded
The snapshot records each classified English colour’s title, marker code, stored HEX reference, and membership in one of the four governed catalog ranges. Ukrainian and Russian catalog translations currently mirror the 889 classified code and HEX records, but the new provenance interface remains English-only until its localized copy is reviewed.
One unsourced English record, R001 Pale Yellow, was found outside every governed range and without Ukrainian or Russian translations. It is not part of this snapshot and remains unpublished until its range and source can be established.
What the website calculates
The site derives RGB display values, screen previews, and colour-harmony suggestions from the stored HEX reference. These calculations help organize and compare records on a screen; they are not physical measurements of marker ink.
What a screen cannot establish
A screen colour does not replace a physical swatch. Appearance can change with paper colour and absorbency, the number of layers, nib saturation or wear, lighting, camera processing, display calibration, and display technology.
The current catalog does not establish manufacturing tolerances, laboratory colour measurements, batch variation, current availability, discontinued or renamed codes, or complete coverage of every manufacturer product line.
How a catalog version is verified
For each classified English record, the release builds one normalized row in the form range|CODE|#HEX|English title. It sorts all rows bytewise, joins them with a single line feed, and calculates SHA-256.
Before publication, the release checks each range count against the database, taxonomy count, and public palette query; compares the computed 889-row hash with the saved version; and rejects malformed values, duplicate codes within a range, or published English records outside exactly one governed range. Any mismatch keeps public provenance disabled.
